Finer than Carolina

This post comes to you from the living room of my mother, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It's wonderful to get away from the city, and the cold, for a week, as well as spend some time with my mom.

I've been spotty on the posts lately. I've been plagued by the a bit of self-editing, due the fact that I've been diagnosed as "angry" based on a read of my blog. The cure is apparently to "come back to god."

I will try to pretend that wasn't offensive.

You guys are the REAL v.i.p.s

Thank you one and all for the donations - I raised $375, which earned me this nifty laminated pass to an upstairs area at the Javits Center. I'd never been to a club where I was wanded with a metal detector before. And thanks to the NYC smoking laws, I got wanded over and over again.

There were a few really cool moments - like when the entire dancefloor went into a coordinated Latin Hustle spontaneously, which was at that point 400-500 people. To an old club queen like me, that's powerful stuff. And we need powerful stuff when the federal government allows only abstinence education and the HIV infection rate is skyrocketing again. I'm going to start volunteering for GMHC, too.

Next year, I'm getting a team together, though.
