subbing in a room
I'm camped in this room, location Williamsburg, while the beehive of a house with 7 people goes on outside my open door. I tried piping from in here, but they can't hear me, which affords me the change to just shut up for once, and listen. Group dynamics are so fun, especially when you can invent your own subtexts.
Today it hit me that I won't be living with all these Texan friends, my replacement family, after Saturday, which is a strange sense of mental and emotional weightlessness. (Even though I'm only going to be 10 minutes away.) The new roommates seem cool, and there's a garden there. I might have just 'arrived.' In Williamsburg, the one part of Brooklyn I was always sure was not for me. All of my co-workers wrinkled their noses when I told them I was leaving Prospect Heights, since being anti-hip is hip right now.
