I will say nothing here about what happened, for legal reasons.

But that gives me a boatload of time on my hands. I am not hurting for money at the moment, so I'm actually somewhat relaxed, since I don't have to rush around trying to find a job tomorrow. Plus, there's a recession on, so no use bashing my head against the wall right now.

I will unfortunately have to move to a place with cheaper rent. It's a shame, since my roommate is never around. I moved in and 12 days later he went out of town for almost 3 months. He came back for 5 days, and then left again without telling me. I think it's been 3 weeks this time. But he's crazy loud when he's in town, and the most anal roommate I've ever had.

Oh, to find a studio for 750 a month. Doesn't exist, alas.

I also left work the week before I had hernia repair surgery. A word to the wise. It f'ing hurts. More pain after the surgery, but at least I won't have a time bomb of gangrene in my guts. Coughing and then having to scream while on percocet was interesting.

This time, however, I will do my darnedest to stay in New York. If I can manage to pull $5k out of my nethers, I'll be going back to school to finish my degree. Hopefully in the fall. We'll see. By Texas standards, it's expensive, but what do you expect in New York? The brisket doesn't even need sauce. My friend and I stuffed ourselves silly, (they even import sausage from one of the more well-known bbq joint from one of the bbqtowns that we Austinites grew up driving out to on the weekends.) The sides are only decent, the sauce tasted like HP sauce(not authentic), and I wish they had imported some Shiner Bock beer, if they were going for Austin authentic. Also, the white bread (for sopping up grease and sauce) was too nice. It's supposed to be Wonder bread. I tried piping from in here, but they can't hear me, which affords me the change to just shut up for once, and listen. Group dynamics are so fun, especially when you can invent your own subtexts.
Today it hit me that I won't be living with all these Texan friends, my replacement family, after Saturday, which is a strange sense of mental and emotional weightlessness. (Even though I'm only going to be 10 minutes away.) The new roommates seem cool, and there's a garden there. I might have just 'arrived.' In Williamsburg, the one part of Brooklyn I was always sure was not for me. There's been a lot of vowels floating around these parts lately, and it's been nice, but mild. Given an underground dance fest around the corner from my house, a cold rainy almost snowy night, and the impulse to be bad, no, really really bad, I just went with it, stocked up, took a nose dive into the deep end of the pool. Chomp, chomp, chomp.

Peace pipe passed around and - oh wait, that's it, and the third one hasn't hit me yet. I lost an hour there somewhere, and came to my senses around 5. Whee! I remember ogling a variety of men, and I was probably for once past my usual inhibitions to look like I was interested enough, but also incoherent enough to not complete the task. Ah well. Must be something in all the turkey we've just eaten in two sanctioned gluttony fests. Ever a gleeful participant in conformity, I give you my own surrender to the same convention, highlights style:

Six from '06 for which I am thankful:

I moved back to New York. Because it's where I'm obviously meant to be.

I found a permanent job. Hooray! I like it, and it might just be influencing my future course in a positive way. I work in an environment of people I like, even if as in every workplace there are politics and "histories." My employer has a long history of doing the right thing, so my soul is content with what I do. Amazing what that can do for your outlook on life, especially if you think too much like I do.

I have a stable living situation. After floor and futon surfing, a one week notice to move, smokey dirty drunkards loft living, I've landed in a nice apartment with stable roommates in Prospect Heights, which is my favorite neighborhood. It might not be forever, but it's a start.

I've connected with a new circle of friends who I fall in love with more every day. they're creative, zany without being insane/mental, and into all sorts of new experiences as well. Plus the core group lives together, so we have a place to hang.

I still have my core group of New York friends in my life.

All this stability is making me like myself even more every day. My thirties have been an adventure, but I feel like I am getting somewhere at 35.

I wonder with next year's Seven will be?

December blahs

Who said a blog had to be updated regularly, anyway?

I am wide and wired awake, buzzing brained from the new round of the old meds I put myself back on this week. I've just been staring at the monitor at work, surfing instead of tackling the thousands of small projects I should be getting done. When I get home, I've been staring at the crappy cable (I hate Cablevision) all night. Things in my life are pretty darn good in most arenas, but I've been noticing days where it's nigh on impossible to leave the house. I'm also not getting any joy out of new social situations, as several recent party experiences have proven. I think I might have been perused and friendlied up at the office 'holiday' party and all I was doing was pulling cold and distant.

And my love for New York has been feeling more like a cold fact than a warm passion, even when I do something cool and amazing like hitting the galleries of Chelsea.

So it's time to recognize the seasonal downshift and take steps to remedy it. I guess I need to think of it as a necessary annual course of treatment.

Keith Olbermann statement of truth, Hacking Democracy

Olbermann's Special Comment (11/1/06) on Vimeo

Did anyone else watch Hacking Democracy on HBO?
